McQuay International's new $50 million research and development center in Plymouth, Minn., has opened, adding as many as 70 jobs to the area for electrical engineers, mechanical engineers and managers.

The new center will develop and test advanced chiller, compressor and other HVAC technologies in an attempt to reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

The 49,000-square-foot research center has been submitted for LEED silver certification. The building achieves a 75-percent recovery of energy that is diverted back into the system as well as water-efficient landscaping, recycled construction waste, low-emitting sealants and locally purchased materials.
