Alegent Health chooses Darland for surgery center construction

Tackling another project for Alegent Health, Omaha-based Darland has been selected to provide comprehensive construction management services for a new ambulatory surgery center in Omaha.

Bergan Mercy Surgery Center will be located within the new South Pavilion addition currently under construction at Bergan Mercy Medical Center. This project is a joint venture between Alegent Health and a physicians group represented by Health Inventures, LLC of Broomfield, Co.

Building out an ambulatory surgery center within a still-under-construction facility presents a unique set of challenges, said Kipp Dimig, project manager with Darland. Like any surgery center, the project incorporates many highly specialized mechanical, electrical, and plumbing requirements. In this case, the project was designed after the expansion had started, so one of Darland's key requirements is to integrate the surgery center's systems with the systems already installed in the new South Pavilion structure.

In addition, Darland will facilitate communications among Alegent Health, Health Inventures, mechanical engineers, specialized subcontractors and the construction manager for the South Pavilion addition.

Darland has already completed a variety of projects for Alegent Health, and is currently constructing a new data center on Alegent's Midlands Hospital campus as well as several projects at Immanuel Medical Center.

Alegent Health is the largest not-for-profit, faith-based healthcare system in Nebraska and southwestern Iowa. It has nine acute-care hospitals and more than 100 sites of service.
